Sally G
bass

Sally Gerolaga, or “Sally G.” as she’s fondly called, is the sole female musician in the group. The bass guitarist estimates that she’s been playing music for more than three decades, and in most music genres – ranging from funk to R&B, salsa to meringue, heavy metal to punk even, country – you name it, she’s played it.

The ‘street-taught’ California import has been residing in Las Vegas for almost a decade, but it was only until she joined “Purple Reign” that she was able to devote her full time to music. While her resume has always included her passion for playing, and being part of various bands – Mighty Spice Band, EnDenial,  BandShe and Las Vegas Music Machine, to name a few – Sally G. has also worn many hats in her lifetime – she has sold real estate and timeshares, subbed in bands too many to name, modeled, won a beauty contest (she was “Miss Monterey”) and even lived in Japan for 10 years where she was a game show host and appeared on various television programs. Japanese was her first language.

Now that she’s back to her “funk roots,” she can’t be happier, although she admits, “The hardest part is to learn how to dance and play music at the same time.” In her spare time, not that there’s much of it, she shares, "I’d like to someday go back and re-learn playing the alto-sax. Not to give up the bass, but to expand musically.”  “I used to play the clarinet for a couple of years, then I got into the saxophone,” she added. And while she feels doubly-blessed that being in “Purple Reign” has allowed her not to have “a day job,” she says that if she hadn’t landed this gig she would “probably still be playing for different bands and doing various projects musically. But being a bassist for a smooth jazz band is where my focus would ultimately ride.”

Whatever the case, and wherever it leads her, music will always be central to her life. As she puts it, “I’ve had my bass for over 30 years… If I can’t play music, I'd be miserable. It has to continually play a part in my life.”
